What is Data Lake?

A data lake is a repository of data from multiple sources, stored in its raw format. The data stored in a data lake can be structured, semi structured or unstructured and is typically used to service reporting, analytics, visualisation and machine learning. It is important that organisations have an understanding of the data and associated metadata within their data lake and its relative importance to the business. This helps avoid the risk of a data lake turning into an unmanaged ‘data swamp’.
