What is ETL?

ETL refers to a three-step data integration: Extract, Transform and Load. ETL is used when source and target systems represent the same data in different ways and often when combining multiple data sources together into a common standard and format. A good ETL process extracts data, ensures that data conforms to quality and consistency standards, transforms data into the target format and finally delivers data to the target system or repository. ETL is used both in data integration and data migration scenarios.
