What is Data Silo?

Data Silo typically refers to a data source – such as an application, database or spreadsheet – that is managed independently and in isolation of other sources of similar data within the same organisation. Hence, the data in data silos can often be inconsistent with, and of lower quality to, other similar data within the business. Companies often look to Master Data Management initiatives to reduce or eliminate data silos.
