Case Study | FleetPride: Starting over to move forward, re-implementing MDM to serve business needs

FleetPride partnered with Amplifi to reimplement their MDM platform Stibo Systems STEP, creating a simplified, governed and scalable platform that now supports faster publishing, better data quality and long-term growth.

FleetPride is the largest independent distributor of parts and services for heavy-duty trucks and trailers in the US, with over 300 locations nationwide. As the business scaled, so did the complexity of its product data. STEP, Stibo Systems’ MDM platform, was selected to support this growth. Although the platform was successfully implemented and technically live, it quickly became clear that the setup wasn’t sustainable.

An over-engineered data model, inconsistent governance, and 950 ungoverned business rules had created bottlenecks and instability. Publishing was slow, processing times were high, and the business was struggling to move forward with confidence.

“It wasn’t the platform. It was how we implemented it. We hadn’t defined what the solution needed to do, and every business rule request just got a yes.” - Todd Miller, Senior Director of MDM, FleetPride

Solution: Rebuilding with purpose

Amplifi’s Stibo Systems STEP consultants worked alongside FleetPride to lead a strategic reimplementation of Stibo Systems STEP. Rather than patching over the existing build, the team agreed to stabilise first, then rebuild with purpose. Amplifi brought targeted platform expertise, assessing the environment, simplifying the data model and introducing governance from the ground up.

We focused on the complex, technical challenges that required deep Stibo Systems STEP knowledge and a direct link to business outcomes. Business continuity was maintained throughout by running the existing instance in parallel while a new version of the platform was built from scratch. Ownership was clarified, mandatory attributes were re-evaluated, and redundant complexity was stripped away. Every decision was tied back to business value, and every addition had to serve a clear purpose.

A platform built for growth

The reimplementation went live within seven months and significantly improved the MDM platform’s performance and scalability with the business. Results included:

  • FleetPride shifted from weekly publishing cycles to near real-time updates, with product data now refreshed every three to five minutes.
  • Image processing times dropped from eight hours to under five minutes for hundreds of assets. Governance is now embedded into every workflow, with clearer ownership and stronger data quality controls.

Stibo Systems STEP is now a strategic foundation for future growth, strengthens new data domains and supports continuous improvement. The team has adopted a quarterly upgrade cycle and continues to improve how Stibo Systems STEP supports the business.

“We had two full stacks running. When we cut over, no one noticed. That’s how smooth it was.” - Todd Miller, Senior Director of MDM, FleetPride
