What is data quality?

Data Quality refers to both the characteristics associated with data, and the processes used to measure or improve the quality of data. Data quality is often characterised by six data quality dimensions: accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, validity, and uniqueness. "Data is considered high quality to the degree it is fit for the purposes data consumers want to apply to it" DAMA.
