What is unstructured data?
Unstructured data typically refers to data which does not resemble a typical database format: e.g. data that does not follow a pre-defined data model or is not organised in a predefined manner. This type of data can contain within it many 'facts' that could be organised in a more structured way, but which would require analysis and context to extract and interpret. Unstructured data is created at an incredible rate each day (for example, social media posts) and can be a rich source of business information. However, specialist tools and techniques are required to process and analyse unstructured data.
